At the salt ponds of the Shandong Weifang Wind-Solar-Storage Base, the corrosive ion concentration in the brine is dozens of times higher than that of typical freshwater—a formidable test for any PV equipment. Nevertheless, rows of PV panels now stretch across the water, tracking the sun and turning its energy into a steady stream of green electricity.
This 29 MW "solar-salt complementary" floating PV plant relies on Sungrow FPV for its entire system solution. Thanks to a specially designed anti-corrosion system, the engineering team successfully overcame the severe corrosive conditions. The project is projected to generate around 27.9 million kWh per year, equivalent to saving roughly 8,600 tons of standard coal and cutting carbon dioxide emissions by some 22,400 tons annually.
Durable Anti-Corrosion System – Safeguarding the Entire Lifecycle
The floating PV mounting system utilizes high-corrosion-resistant materials that have withstood the industry's toughest CX environmental tests and over 18,000 hours of real-world marine exposure validation. Leveraging accurate corrosion rate forecasting and design margin optimization, the system guarantees reliable operation and maximum energy yield over its full service life.
Custom Corrosion-Resistant Anchoring – Delivering Both Safety and Value
Customized anti-corrosion anchoring solutions are developed to meet the specific demands of each water environment. The anchor cable system incorporates a three-tier active protection strategy: corrosion-proof polymer materials thoroughly prevent corrosion, while innovative UV-resistant and abrasion-resistant features mitigate UV degradation from cable exposure during low-water periods and wear caused by salt particle infiltration—substantially lowering maintenance risks and expenses. The anchor blocks are infused with specialized anti-permeation and anti-corrosion additives to resist chemical attack and physical freeze-thaw damage, actively protecting internal rebar from rust and securing the anchoring foundation's long-term integrity.
The "solar-salt complementary" approach makes the most of the expansive salt flats and plentiful sunshine, combining PV power generation with conventional salt-making operations. This creates a new green production model that maximizes land utilization and delivers significantly enhanced overall value. Sungrow FPV remains committed to spearheading industry innovation, exploring additional floating PV application scenarios, and continuously advancing green and sustainable growth.
