At temperatures as low as -40°C, floating PV systems are subjected to a range of severe challenges, including ice-induced compression, heavy-load O&M activities, and impacts from falling debris. Partnering with Tsinghua University's research labs, Sungrow FPV carried out dedicated extreme-cold performance testing, generating authentic data that confirms the rugged reliability of its products.

Withstanding Ice Displacement – Unyielding Tensile Strength

Frost heave and ice movement in frigid conditions exert powerful pulling forces that can compromise connection points. To replicate these challenges, specialized environmental chambers subjected floats to sustained freezing at -40°C prior to testing. The results demonstrated a tensile strength of 10.28 KN—surpassing industry benchmarks by an impressive 71.3%—laying a reliable foundation for floating PV deployment in extreme cold environments.


Heavy-Duty O&M – Resilient Under Pressure

Floating PV systems in frigid conditions are subjected to ice compression and maintenance loads. During field testing, the floats carried a 500 kg weight plus two technicians, bringing the total load to over three times normal maintenance levels. The system held steady without compromising structural integrity, fully satisfying safety and O&M requirements under extreme conditions.


Heavy Impact Resistance – Proven Durability

Heavy impact hazards are a real risk at project sites. To verify durability, a 20 kg steel ball was dropped from heights ranging from 1 to 4 meters during testing. Sungrow FPV products remained completely intact—no deformation, no cracks—showcasing outstanding impact resistance in low-temperature conditions.

The Sungrow FPV system has successfully undergone extreme testing well beyond design load requirements, with all performance metrics meeting or exceeding expectations. These proven capabilities ensure reliable, stable floating PV operation across a full range of application scenarios.
